Level: Beginner to IntermediateIf you’re intrigued by the Search Queries feature in Webmaster Tools but aren’t sure how to make it actionable, we have a video that we hope will help!
Maile shares her approach to Search Queries in Webmaster Tools
This video explains the vocabulary of Search Queries, such as:
- Impressions
- Average position (only the top-ranking URL for the user’s query is factored in our calculation)
- Click
- CTR
- Prepare by understanding your website’s goals and your target audience (then using Search Queries “filters” to support your knowledge)
- Sort by clicks in Top queries to understand the top queries bringing searchers to your site (for the given time period)
- Sort by CTR to notice any missed opportunities
- Categorize queries into logical buckets that simplify tracking your progress and staying in touch with users’ needs
- Sort Top pages by clicks to find the URLs on your site most visited by searchers (for the given time period)
- Sort Top pages by impressions to find valuable pages that can be used to help feature your related, high-quality, but lower-ranking pages

Thanks for post, it more helpful
I get a lot of false information in these search queries data. For example the search queries that Google says I rank for on their average position is not even close to being correct when I check for myself. Can Google explain how these inaccuracies are possible?
Bravo! I can't actually think of any Google video I have ever seen that did as good a job as this one in providing important, actionable information.
a wonderful expression
thanks
Great video. Only caveat is when she talks about missing queries and finding out how you rank for that query as a starting point for optimization. That would be great if keyword not provided weren't an issue.
This is what I needed! Thanks

Got up early and read this post.
First the embedded video did not work and no link to it. Then I tried both link:http://www.drachsi.com and link:http://drachsi.com in both FireFox and Explorer and that did not work, so gave up.
Do post get checked first before publishing?

Thanks for the information about this Really nice Post. You can easily make some money from these Top ptc sites
Great!
Ever since the Search Queries feature appeared in Google Webmaster Tools, i've been trying to utilise it as much as possible. :)
Question about impressions: You said that it is only counted as an impression when a searcher goes to the page of results that your site appears on in a given query. I thought it counted any time your page was in query results, even if the searcher didn't go to the page you were on (e.g. my website is on the 30th page of results in a query, but it still counts as an impression).
As it says on the Google support page an impressions is: The number of times pages from your site appeared in search results
Just looking for some clarification. Thanks!
