Navigation, Dashboard and Home page

Webmaster level: All

After announcing Webmaster Tools spring cleaning earlier this quarter, it’s time to do the job. There are a few changes coming along: an updated navigation, revamped dashboard, and a compact view for the home page site-list.

Here's the new sample Webmaster Tools Dashboard for www.example.com

We’ve regrouped the features in Webmaster Tools to create an improved navigation structure (shown on the left-hand side of the above image). We distinguished the following groups: Configuration, Health, Traffic and Optimization. Each group represents a related set of functionality:
  • Configuration: Things you configure and generally don’t change very often.
  • Health: Where you look to make sure things are OK.
  • Traffic: Where you go to understand how your site is doing in Google search, who’s linking to you; where you can explore the data about your site.
  • Optimization: Where you can find ideas to enhance your site, which enables us to better understand and represent your site in Search and other services.

If you have a moment, please take time to familiarize yourself with the new Webmaster Tools navigation. Some features were slightly renamed, such as HTML Suggestions became HTML Improvements, however the functionality remains the same.

Hoping you’ll find the new navigation useful, we also think you’ll like the new Dashboard. At the top of the Dashboard you can see recent, important, prioritized messages regarding your site. Just below that, you’ll find another section which provides a brief summary of the current status of your site. There are three widgets displayed: Crawl Errors, Search Queries and Sitemaps, each representing a different navigation group: Health, Traffic and Optimization (respectively). We know your time is valuable. With the new Dashboard, we've surfaced more messages and charts to let you see how your site is doing at a glance. Take a quick look before diving into the details.

Finally, those of you who manage a large number of sites can choose to view your site-list in a 'Compact' layout, without the large site-preview thumbnails. Don't worry, if you want the more expanded layout you can always switch back.

I just want to know that in google webmaster tools there is an option called parameters. I am unable to find any relevant information on what exactly to get in that specific tab. Could you please update a post regarding parameters in google webmaster. It would clear the doubts.

When I want to set a preferred domain it says I have to verify it (both versions). How do I do that after I already verified it once? There's no option anywhere.

needed lots more in it, Query Sorting Section like if website has been penalized partly (sudden drop in ranking of some keywords etc) and webmaster wants to ask the reason then he may ask here (direct from Google) instead of Forum and sending direct reconsidering request as Forum is also not reliable.

Hi, google employee

I am a netter and of course I am always looking for information via google search engine. And when I found something, often, I found a lot of blogs those were not particularly high quality, most of them use blogspot.

Many people create blogs, but merely spamming or link farming. If I observe, they use blogspot.com because blogspot.com is owned by google, they might also assume that if they get links from google products so their site also will have high ranking.

And we also know that sometimes there are events such as seo contest held by companies. And what the most I see is on blogspot.com, they use it for link farm. I think it doesn't really matter about seo contest BUT don't use google products for spamming. I wonder how could google let them use it. It makes people think "..Oww...google let its member to make spam, so it's ok we also want to make like that too"

My suggest is, blogspot.com should follow wordpress.com. Wordpress forbids its members to join the seo contest. If there any members who join the seo contest & then they will be banned or their accounts will be deleted.

I hope blogspot developer consider this, sincerely

We have a large account with hundreds of sites in it. Since this update Webmaster tools seems to crash and we can't use it. Thumbnails flash for a second and disappear and no sites are displayed. We rely on this tool - HELP!

Thumbnails are not appearing for some sites..Some are out of date..How to refresh thumbnails? THere should be an option to ask for refresh and also to hide all thumbnails as an option as scrolling through 500 takes a lot of time
