Recognizing Top Contributors in Google's Help Forums

Wednesday, September 07, 2011 at 7:59 AM

The communities around Google products and services have been growing tremendously over the last couple of years. It is inspiring and motivating for us to see how many users like you contribute to Google Forums. For some time, we´ve been thinking of ways to thank our Top Contributors -- our most the passionate, helpful, friendly, and active users. These TCs have demonstrated incredible commitment to our communities and continue to share their profound knowledge by answering user questions within the forums.

TCs from all over the world will attend our first global summit in California.

We decided to give the online world a break for a moment and meet in real life to celebrate our past success and work on future endeavours. Google Forum Guides, Googlers that participate in the forums, and Top Contributors will convene for the first global Top Contributor Summit on September 13th and 14th in Santa Clara and Mountain View, California. During the Google-organized two-day event, Top Contributors will meet guides, engineers and product managers in order to get to know each other, provide feedback and share new ideas. We’ll be sharing some of the insights and takeaways after the event too, so stay tuned. And if you would like to follow the events online, look out for the #TCsummit tag on Twitter and our updates on Google+.

@KoolKabin
You get to be a TC by being;
1) Dedicated
2) Helpful
3) Expending a fair amount of time/effort for the benefit of others
4) Showing knowledge/skill in a particular field/tool/app/service

Simply go to the group that suits your knowledge/skills/background - and start helping.
The more quality help you give, the longer you keep on giving - the more likely to become a TC.

(Please Note : None of the original TCs (the Bionics) wanted to be "TCs" - as that status didn't exist. They just gave, gave and gave some more - for free - for No Personal or Professional gain.)

Thanks for the shout-out guys. I'm heading out to San Francisco on Friday.

The Webmaster Central Forum has been an amazing five year ride for me, and I have to say that it probably taught me as much as I taught others.

There really is no greater webmaster learning/support resource out there, and I'm proud to have been a part of it since the early days.

I'm really looking forward to the summit, and to meeting a bunch of Googlers and the rest of my TC crowd. :-D

Hum... it is kinda unfair that the link to the TCs page points only to English TCs. Remember, Google has about some hundred spread over the whole world who are actively participating.

Really a great occasion and to be appreciated for equally great spirit of it. With Regards.

We are not TCs... We are the Bionics ;-)

Seriously though...

While I'm flattered that the post includes a link to the Webmaster Central TC page (http://goo.gl/IvWU0), highlighting the A Team :-Þ, and while I do appreciate that the Bionics were the original prototype TCs way back in 2008, I was wondering why the other invited TCs weren't mentioned.

For the record... there are about 300 TCs from all corners of the world attending this Summit.

Sorry to spoil the picnic, but there's something I think you should discuss while you are there.

It would be hard to dispute that the "most passionate, helpful, friendly and active" Top Contributor on the webmaster help forum was Autocrat.

I think Google owes him more thanks than any other, except perhaps webado. Sure, I know nothing and there's probably more than one incident to consider but I think the webmaster help forum has been less effective and a less helpful place without him.

It would be nice if a way could be found to bring him back. :)

Remember to tell them to stop ridiculing people who ask for help.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN A MORE INCOMPETENT COMPANY THAN GOOGLE. THEY OFFER NO SUPPORT WHAT SO EVER AND WHEN CLIENTS WANT TO CONTACT THEM, THEY TAKE IONS TO RESPOND. CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS. SPEND MORE MONEY ON CUSTOMER SATSIFACTION THAN ON AQUISITION YOU BUNCH OF IDIOTS1!!!!!!

The TC Summit is a great idea! Really honored and excited to be there as an AdWords TC!

Ah @Michael Martinez, you're always a bright ray of sunshine in my day. /sarcasm

But I think the day that you put too many rules on volunteers is the day you lose the spirit of the community and volunteers stop giving free time - that's when you make 'em employees. There's benefits to that, but there are negatives too. I like the forum for what it is - FREE help from loads of people with a load of personality. It's not like the TC's don't take loads of insults from the posters too, and the majority of time stay diplomatic in the face of it all. It's the model that Google has decided to go with, it won't fit everyone, but it sure does help a lot of people.

When I recognize and respond to a comment on my blog, I always include my blog name (http://tumbleweedmarketinganalytics.com/) as a link with the response to the person in question for all other visitors to see. It is one of my internal site-linking strategies. Does this help for SEO-purposes?

But Top Contributers are rarely the best answer providers.

Just read the replies by DarkUFO (a TC) in this thread. He drove me and the others nearly insane.

A shame.

I left as a Top Contributor on Google Apps because I felt that Google was NOT giving it's TCs the help and tools to effectively help resolve Google's customers problems. I could mention the chaos surrounding the first Nexus One farce as well. Jumping into those forums when the phone was released and attempting to help customers without proper backup from Google was a nightmare. I had to give up.

We're talking a few years ago now, so I sincerely hope that Google has now given my former TCs the help and support they need to help Google provide support for it's customers. I really do, because TCs are indeed the pillar of the Help communities.

I am thrilled and honored to be included in this event :)
I used to secretly hope to get invited to visit Google's office in Montreal, but I never dreamed about going straight to the source. Heading out on Saturday for a week of California FUN :) Best birthday present one could have :)

I wish google could take care of clients themselves. Yes it is great to have top contributors however I have been trying to get help fir the past 1.5 months and nobody has helped. Maybe everyone was getting ready for the summit.
In this day and age a huge company Like google has no proper customer support. That is unheard of. Jeez poor RIM Don't blame China for not allowing google into the country.
Wake up Google.

Div said...

Wish your computer was actually working Sybil - this way you would be helping people who are posting to your site looking for help. Jeez is it even possible to get any helP from this retarded company ?

As a TC on the web search forum I'll be going to the summit. So who else got the free upgrade to business class on the trans-atlantic leg of the journey?

:-)

Be great to see the Plex and mingle with some of the other TC's.

Might get a tan too.
