Webmaster level: AllFor the past few months, you might have used +1 buttons to help visitors recommend your content on Google Search and on their Google Profiles. We’ve just announced a few changes that make +1 even more useful.
First, the +1 button now lets visitors share links to your pages on Google+. If someone wants to start a conversation about your content, it’s easy for them to do so. Second, you can use +Snippets to customize the name, image and description that appear when your content is shared. Finally, new inline annotations help increase engagement after users see a friend’s recommendation right on your page.
Here are a couple of tips to help you take full advantage of these improvements:
+Snippets
The +1 button opens up your site to a valuable new source of traffic with sharing on Google+. +Snippets let you put your best face forward by customizing exactly what appears when your content is shared.
For example, if you’re running a movie review site, you might want visitors to share posts containing the title, movie poster, and a brief synopsis:
You may already be using this markup to build rich annotations for your pages on Google Search. If not, marking up your pages is simple. Just add the correct schema.org attributes to the data already present on your pages. You’ll set a name, image, and description in your code:
<body itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/Article">
<h1 itemprop="name">This is the article name</h1>
<img itemprop="image" src="thumbnail.jpg" />
<p itemprop="description">This is the description of the article.</p>
</body>Example code containing each of the +Snippet attributes
For more details on alternate markup types, please see our technical documentation.
Inline annotations
Now, when a person visits a page that someone they know has +1’d, they can see a name and face reminding them to pay special attention to your content. Here’s how it looks:
To add inline annotations, you need to update your +1 button code. Visit the configuration tool, select ‘inline’ from the ‘Annotation’ menu, and grab a new snippet of code.
Both sharing from +1 and inline annotations are rolling out fully over the next few days. To test these improvements right now, join our Platform Preview group.
Update later the same day, August 24, 2011: If you have any thoughts or feedback you'd like to share, continue the conversation on Google+.

Love the tools for publishers. Im a blog publisher too. Can we please have these in the form of WP plugins instead of code snippets?
That's awesome. Now let's gets Music and Picasa integrated for sharing. We should be able to share what we're listening to with circles. We should also be able to share with circles any photo (as a post) from any of our Picasa albums.
@Rumjungle, check this out -> http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-plus-one-button-plugin/
Is there support for HTML5 semantic elements in addition to microformats? Will there be?
such a shame opengraph and google don't standardize between them, duplicated metadata is so wasteful.
is it good that people can access the page loaded in the iframe by themselves?
that could be violated...

this is a very nice improvement..
I love this new button! But it doesn't work in IE. I was wondering if I had just installed it on my site wrong, but I looked at this page in IE and I don't see it on here either. I know a lot of techie types hate IE, but IE still exists and I want everyone who visits my company's site to see the G+ button, not just the ones smart enough to ditch IE. Suggestions?
about time Thanks Google
I loved the fact that it accepts Open Graph.. If the page contains Open Graph properties for the title, image, and description (og:title og:image og:description), then they will be used for the +Snippet
Thank you, Google; as this type of mark up really helpful. I really and prolifically experienced its useful (effectiveness) in bringing up new visitors to my blog from all the three (3) giant search engines (Bing, Google, and Yahoo!
Again, I deeply thank you both (Google & Schema.org)
Please fix Google plus button on Youtube. If you "like" a video then click the share button the Google+ button is missing.
Thank You. Very helping and utilisable tool. Regards.
Nice to see you are making progress. WP Plugins would be nice ....
Thanks
Thank You! Nice tool, I think it's very helpfully for bloggers like me.
Awesome! So that means my WordPress Open Graph plugin will now work with Google Plus AND Facebook :)

The sharing functions has a great Bug for the Plus One Button.
It doesn't parse the schema.org correctly.
Here I described why: http://seoblog.giorgiotave.it/google-plus-condivisione/793
@webr3: You can use the OpenGraph data to populate the +Snippet checkout the docs here: http://code.google.com/apis/+1button/#plus-snippet
Why is Google introducing additional meta data that invalidates html code?
Aren't we suffering alraedy enough from the open graph code?
why not OpenGraph? Would be far easier to implement Facebook AND G+...
Does it load faster than the old one?
We had to remove the old version of google + button because was really slowing down the page load time from our app.
I like this very much and I'm testing it right now on a project. However I noticed one problem: when using HTML character entities in the description (such as "& eacute;" or "& copy;") those are kept as plain text instead of displayed as the character they are meant to represent. So instead of reading "é", I'm actually reading "& eacute;".
I hope this will be fixed. :-)
(As you guessed, I inserted an extra space in my examples to be sure they will not be converted in this comment. ^^)
Hi,
I am implementing the button, with snippets and I would like some support :) it would be awesome if there are some more example on how to optimise the +snippets for realworld situations. My example is I want to implement this to a webshop (sumobrickshop.com) I have product pages, that is pretty straight forward. Set it as 'product' But what about the index page? what about category pages? I see there is a choice to set is as 'toystore' But that sounds like what I would use for the 'about' pages and 'contact' pages.
So my question, can you help me setting the different pages on a complete website, either webshop, or just commercial website. To an optimum solution?
I think having an example would be very helpfull for all us webmasters out there :)
Cheers,
Vincent
For the Mobile Reviews visit mobilesmafia.com It really a helpfull site for use
How about finally enabling google profiles for google apps users, so that we can also use Google+ with all these super-truper features? I really don't want to use 3 different google accounts... (I already have two because there is problem with enabling google adsense for my primary account).
"URL to +1:" is not working with inline annotation, asynchronous and HTML5 valid syntax...
At least I was able to see what the newer features will look like when displayed. When will Google+ open up it's doors for the rest of the public? Or is this going to fade away like wave did?
Hi EMD CT
Have you tried Music Beta by Google yet? here's the link http://music.google.com/about/
Alright, I am assuming that this event in Sao Paulo, Brazil is real correct? Where can I get more info about it ?
Seems simple enough - so using the 'itemprop' command can control the pages name, image and description that Google's +1 thingy looks for. I think I'm understanding that right - correct me if I'm wrong.
How is this weighed or measured against the traditional Title and Meta Description tags?
Hi, can i copy this post and put it on my Blog?
Wonderful—what about Google Sites?
HELP -- Please provide REAL examples that can be used with Goolge Sites.
Please bring Google Sites current with Social Tools.

I was afraid of things about the sharing button for Google Plus. But thanks to Google, the Plus one button satisfied itself for the sharing. And it is automatically enabled in my blogs. :)

I'll sound like a real noob, but what and where do I must type to have the +1 snippets to share my blogger post in G+ circles?
Hi All,

Hello!
Nice post!
In my blog I described how to add Google +1 Button to every WordPress blog post in respect to iNove theme. I added the +1 button manually editing php files. Probably, it could be useful for someone. The article is here - WordPress: How to add Google +1 Button to WordPress blog post.
Thanks!
I've tried to implement the above, but sometimes not visible in search results, plainly I come up with a format like this:
<div itemprop='aggregateRating' itemscope='itemscope' itemtype='http://schema.org/AggregateRating'> <meta content='4.5' itemprop='ratingValue'/> <meta content = '177 'itemprop =' reviewCount '/> </ div>
Is this valid with metadata?
