Webinar: Implementing the +1 Button

Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 6:39 PM

Webmaster Level: All

A few weeks ago, we launched the +1 button for your site, allowing visitors to recommend your content on Google search directly from your site. As people see recommendations from their friends and contacts beneath your search results, you could see more, better qualified traffic from Google.

But how do you make sure this experience is user friendly? Where should you position the +1 button? How do you make sure the correct URL is getting +1’d?

On Tuesday, June 21 at 3pm ET, please join Timothy Jordan, Google Developer Advocate, to learn about how to best implement the +1 button on your site. He’ll be talking through the technical implementation details as well as best practices to ensure the button has maximum impact. During the webinar, we’ll review the topics below:
  • Getting started
  • Best practices
  • Advanced options
  • Measurement
  • And, we’ll save time for Q&A
If you would like to attend, please register here. To download the code for your site, visit our +1 button tool on Google Webmaster Central.

If this tool is going to be the major factor for ranking change, then I will hire 10000s of people for couple of bucks to give me +1, so that I get the desired rankings.

Imagine big companies, they can hire millions of people for doing that! Not a bad deal Huh?

Great Google Master. Thank You for continued innovations and striving to make them user friendly. That's beauty.

I see this page has 9 +1's. But on a search results i don't see any difference or any sign people recommends this. What's the problem?

Who cares about +1, just scrap it. It is another useless feature from Google

Ilja, that's because on the SERPs you only see +1's from your contacts, not everyone who +1'd the page. You most like don't have any of those 9 among your contacts.

I just put the +1 button on a litte site, a Quadratic Formula Calculator and I know for sure that more that one person has clicked it, but it still shows only one. Is there some kind of delay that might cause that?

+1 feature is good move by Google team but, I agree with 'NexGen Forum', if Google is going to consider +1 as a factor for ranking... it would be difficult to control people who will take an advantage of +1 feature.

Who gets to see the pages that I +1? People in my gmail address book? I do not have anyone in my addy book, so what;s the point of me pressing +1?

Will this webinar be recorded and video uploaded possibly to Google Blog or Google Youtube Channel ?

Chris said...

I would like to know the same as James B. I have a meeting and I would really like to see this webinar.

Was disappointed to find you needed a telephone to access the audio. Other online presentations I've attended didn't have this requirement.

All this did was waste my time.

Will WMT or GA let me know if I have the +1 code not setup correctly?

I have tried to ad this button with every configuration and it never appears? Of course want it to meet xhtml and verify. There are no tags in html? But tried even that not coming up. Go to www.nucow.com lines 28 and 106 to see current code with nothing showing. I have tried firefox also nothing. Cannot google find a programmer to write code in xhtml? It has to be about the most common there is without always forcing some hard time non backwards compatable headache. Do you make it difficult for job justification? If it doesn't meet W3 it is about as user friendly as flying a 747 in a hurricane.
