Reconsideration requests: Now with notifications

Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 3:46 PM

If you've submitted a reconsideration request via Webmaster Tools, you've probably wondered what happens once Google receives it. We've always done our best to act upon these requests as quickly as possible, but until now we haven't notified webmasters once we've processed their requests.

As of last week, after your request has been processed, we'll confirm this by sending a message to your Message Center in Webmaster Tools. (Prefer to be notified by email? You can do that too.) Sometime after you receive a reconsideration request confirmation message, check your site's performance in search results. If it's doing well, it means that Google has reviewed your site and believes that it adheres to our Webmaster Guidelines. If your site still isn't performing well in search, we recommend reviewing our Webmaster Guidelines and also checking out these possible reasons why your site might not be doing as well as you expect.

The comments you read here belong only to the person who posted them. We do, however, reserve the right to remove off-topic comments.

Still doesn't address the -60 penalty imposed against our domain that we have tried time and time again to find a way to have removed.

It may be that your XML is not properly formatted. XML is very strict, so its best to make sure everything is proper.

I have found that if you do not have spaces perfect, etc it can invalidate a file. Your author tag is out of line.

tag1 ... /tag1
tag2...
/tag2
tag3 ... /tag 3
tag4 ... /tag 4

Should be more like:

tag4 ... /tag4

I received that message, but does not say how long
I can take to add the search engine (It is assumed that
I am penalized specifies a term in Google Chile).
How long can it take to reappear in
that term?

THANKS

Ben, typically how long does it take Google to respond to Reconsideration Requests?

My site at http://cli.gs/qPHPAQ, which has grown nicely over the last 3 years, suddenly disappeared from Google Search last June 12. (Note: I submitted a Reconsideration Request on June 12). Google accounted for about 70% of the site's traffic. Needless to say I'm extremely disappointed.

I have removed/changed everything in the site that may have caused any problems after reviewing Google's guidelines and consulting with other Webmasters. I'm hoping to get back in Google's good graces very soon. If there is anything else that I need to fix, please let me know. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to get completely deindexed by Google if a site gets hundreds of backlinks in a short amount of time? (my example: 800 of 1700 backlinks is from one blog - which was completely not intentional - I asked the webmaster to remove the links)

Possible to get a reconsideration?

Karen Thumm said...

I requested a reconsideration of my site about three weeks ago, but my problem still persists. I have good rankings in regular searches, but my site has almost completely disappeared from image searches. Previously, about 80% of my visitors were coming from image searches, and now only two of my images are showing up. Since mine is an art site, this has drastically affected my visitor numbers.

I've read through the webmaster guidelines and can't figure out what I've done wrong or am not doing that has gotten me penalized for image searches.

My url is http://www.equineartist.com

Can you offer any help or advice??

Thank you.

@Karen, I will research your site a bit more and get back to you.

@Hydra, if the backlinks were acquired without violating our Webmaster Guidelines you should be in good shape.

Thank you, Sagar. I would very much appreciate that.

On the Dashboard of Google Webmaster, it states, "Googlebot has successfully accessed your home page.
Pages from your site are included in Google's index.", however, all my pages have vanished from Google Search.

Should the Dashboard be ignored?

Sagar Kamdar said...

@sales, you can find the link for the reconsideration request form from here:

Can I get someone to tell me what needs to be cleaned up on the site: http://www.selltestequipment.com

I can get all the help possible. This site was put up for a friend of mine who was diagnosed with a crippling disease. Ild love to explain to someone privately if they can contact me.

So Google send you a message saying they have reviewed your site that they will not tell you if the penalty has been removed, that's really helpful Google. Seriously I think Google actually enjoy torturing people who have received a penalty.

Now if only they actually _read_ the requests instead of just clicking an automated reply...

Hi i have a website http://www.cirurgia-plastica.com that was in number one for many keywords like cirurgia plastica, cirurgia intima, etc and since 19/11/10 dropped to page5-6 for all search terms, which led me think that it got hit by the ggole minus 50 penalty. I am almost sure that the cause was a lot of bad/ spam backlinks from forums and blog posts, as a result of the previous seo firm we hired , that were a clear violation of google guidelines. I read all google guidelines and cleaned my site so it can follow all google guidelines. I wrote a reconsideration for google and i´m waiting for the results. Also i started a theread in webmasters google forum help http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=4cf064ca1d0473f1&hl=en . I don't know more what to do. Could you guys give a look and tell me if theres anything more that should be fixed so that i can be in good graces with google again?

Thanks,
Valter

I think that "if your web site is performing well, it means google reviewed your web site" isn't a good answer.

You implemented a notification to inform the users a request has been received? Good. Drop them an email to inform them their site verification process ended.

I'm not saying to disclose the result of your verification. Just a pure informative email. That's it.

This will make the link between the engine and the users a bit stronger.

I requested a reconsideration of my site - it's high traffic account and is used for bookings. is there a point of escalation anyone can recommend. It's super urgent

thanks

Will said...

It may be urgent for you, but it's not urgent for Google. They just don't care about your priorities.

It appears that the intern who handles reconsideration request has gone back to school. It's 27 September and I have reconsideration requests from August which still haven't been processed.

These automated notifications are simply that -- automated. They don't reflect any actual human involvement.

After almost a month, I finally received an automated response from Google.

It states "We've reviewed your site and we believe that some or all of your pages still violate our quality guidelines."

This is an obvious lie. I deleted ALL pages from our web site. I deleted over 1,400 pages of unique hand-written content. There are no pages on the site. We deleted them ALL in an attempt to make Google happy. We're currently rewriting the site from scratch.

Obviously Google did not review our site. They simply lied. Google lies to us and they lie to you. They lie to us all.
