State of the Index: my presentation from PubCon Vegas

Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 4:15 PM

It seems like people enjoyed when I recreated my Virtual Blight talk from the Web 2.0 Summit late last year, so we decided to post another video. This video recreates the "State of the Index" talk that I did at PubCon in Las Vegas late last year as well.

Here's the video of the presentation:

and if you'd like to follow along, here are the slides:

You can also access the presentation directly. Thanks again to Wysz for recording this video and splicing the slides into the video.

Matt,

I think I had more drinks via your drinking game instructions in the video than the entire time at PubCon in Vegas last year ;)

Thanks for an interesting and useful presentation Matt. Just to give some feedback on the Google Chrome browser that you were talking about. I have found it fast to use, and like the fact that more information can be displayed on screen (because less space is taken by menu bars etc). I would use it all the time if it supported the Google Earth Plug-in which I use on one of my sites. Is this something thats going to happen in the not too distant future?
It would also be good if you could get the page rank of the web page being browsed. This is something that I often take note of (at present I get this info using the page rank gadget on the google toolbar of my other browser). Is this something that Chrome will be able to do in the future?
Thanks again for a great presentation.

Good review of Google's 2008/2009 products/services. Look forward to more. In case you guys want or if anyone else wants to read, I wrote up the notes here http://semcommonsense.com/2-the-point-google-predicts-more-blackhat-hacking-of-websites-in-2009 on my SEO blog. Again, thanks for the "directors cut" of the presentation for many of us who couldn't attend the conference.

2008 was a great year for webmasters and Google -- we got some cool, useful tools *and* more insight into how Google things and works, which is so important to those of us wanting to "polish our resumes" (to use Matt's analogy). Hope 2009 includes even more good stuff ... with the way the economy is going, we're all going to need it!
