Wondering how to make your site more social? We'd like to make it easier for you, which is why earlier tonight at Campfire One at the Googleplex, we announced a preview release of Google Friend Connect.
Google Friend Connect is a service that that helps you grow traffic by enabling you to easily provide social features for your visitors. Just add a snippet of code, and, voilĂ , you can add social functionality -- picking and choosing from built-in functionality like user registration, invitations, members gallery, message posting, and reviews, as well as third-party applications built by the OpenSocial developer community.
Social features can generate buzz and traffic to your pages. Using Google Friend Connect on your site, your visitors will be able to see, invite, and interact with their friends from existing sources of friends, including Facebook, Google Talk, hi5, LinkedIn, orkut, Plaxo, and others. And you'll be able to more actively engage your visitors by adding social features from a growing gallery of social applications.
We've heard from many site owners that even though their sites aren't social networks, they'd still like them to be social. Whether your site sells car parts or dishes out great guacamole recipes -- like the sample site in the YouTube video above -- you can visit http://www.google.com/friendconnect/ or read more on the Official Google Blog to learn about Google Friend Connect. Right now, the preview is available for only a few sites, but soon we'll give the green light to even more. Sign up now to be on the wait list.

that seems to be a brilliant tool. sometimes i wonder why Google rocks so much
This is massive. Cant wait for everyone to jump on the google train.
Sounds great, but the form bounces every time for me.
Is it me ... or simply great demand on the server?
I'm getting the "this form doesn't work" error too. But supposedly the spreadsheets team is on their way. What I don't know is if the data was received or if I need to sign up again once it's fixed.
yeah, I'm getting the same form submission error. Between this and the problem with adsense directing me to log in to read instructions on how to accept the new terms and conditions and then not displaying any such instructions, I'm having a very frustrating two days with Google.
Hi everyone,
Thanks for your interest in Friend Connect! The signups should now submit more easily. If you submitted earlier and didn't receive confirmation, please re-enter...

I have to say this is a really great idea. With more and more companies wanting to add social networking to their sites even when social networking doesn't really apply to their business model - this application will help save time and money in developing that feature and eliminate the ramping up time it takes to generate the user base to get a social networking to become successful.
Yeah - I'm excited!

What a fantastic idea - I can't wait to get this setup on a couple of sites!
Good job Google!
Interesting reactions from Blogoscoped
Exciting technology, sleep inducing video :)
Now this is scary!
Google has a ton of apps out there. Some great some not so great. However, the timing on this one couldn't be better for me. I am anxious to integrate it into a site and test it.
Awesome idea!!! Really looking forward to putting this app to use. Keep up the good work Google!
I really like the idea ... especially being able to use existing login credentials on little sites that I would otherwise never even consider signing up for.
Maybe it was just the example sites but the widget interfaces seemed pretty user unfriendly... I'd hope that becomes more customizable.
Plus this is just one more iframe to load...
This app sounds great.. cant wait to test it!!
What a great idea! Love it, can't wait to try it!
When I check my Webmaster Tools/My Account I have a link showing for Google Friend Connect but if I click on on it I get:
Google
Error
Not Found
The requested URL /c/ps/ was not found on this server.
Does this mean I am still on the waiting list? Anyone???
Sounds cool..But where's the beef?
hey for blogger, where exactly I should paste the code??
