Subscriber stats and more

Friday, September 14, 2007 at 3:49 PM

We're unrolling some exciting new features in Webmaster Tools.

First of all, subscriber stats are now available. Webmaster Tools now show feed publishers the number of aggregated subscribers you have from Google services such as Google Reader, iGoogle, and Orkut. We hope this will make it easier to track subscriber statistics across multiple feeds, as well as offer an improvement over parsing through server logs for feed information.

To improve the navigation and look and feel, we've also made some changes to the interface, including:
  • No more tabs! Navigate through the new sidebar.
  • Breadcrumbs in the page title for easier product navigation.
  • A sidebar that expands and contracts to show and hide options based on your current goal.
  • New sidebar topics: Overview, Diagnostics, Statistics, Links, Sitemaps, and Tools.
And last but not least, Webmaster Tools is now available in 20 languages! In addition to US English, UK English, French, Italian, Spanish, German, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Russian, Japanese, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, and Polish, Webmaster Tools are now in Turkish and Romanian.

Sign in to see these changes for yourself. For questions or feedback, please post in the Google Webmaster Tools section of our Webmaster Help Group.

Update: some of the functionality described in this post is no longer available. More information.

This is a huge benefit for my blog and other feeds I keep. I have been wondering how to track how many people sign up for my feeds. I used to think no one really cared until someone mentioned a post I had made a while back while discussing some SEO techniques. It finally donned on me that people are interested in my posts and some of my gadgets I create, and this will help me see how many, and if the feed is worth continuing with.

Great! Many people have been asking for this feature. Will the full details of subscribers also be available - like email address, when subscribed etc and also counts of those using other feed readers?

Regards,

Thanks for adding this feature. Any plans on allowing us to integrate our Feedburner accounts into Webmaster Tools? Webmaster Tools doesn't report my feed stats because they are hosted at feedburner.com.

It does not appear to work with Feedburner. All of my feeds are set with Auto Discovery and Feedburner and this only shows a couple of subscribers to the original feed?

XML simaps is Ok. But gzip-ed one have error:

Sitemap errors for http://beon.ru/sitemap_wish_tags_0.xml.gz

This Sitemap has the following errors.
Errors
Unsupported file format
Your Sitemap does not appear to be in a supported format. Please ensure it meets our Sitemap guidelines and resubmit. [?]

i like the new "subscriber stats" feature but i think the desing looks much worse than before.before you change iti it was much easier to navigate through the menu.

Just wanted to clarify that the subscriber number in webmaster tools reflects all known subscribers to feeds that are on your verified domain only. FeedBurner sees all requests for your feeds, whether they're to www.yourdomain.com/feed or feeds.feedburner.com/yourfeed. If a Google user is subscribed to the FeedBurner version of your feed, the webmaster tools number will not include them.

@villain, angelika: these would be great questions to post in our Help Group where we can look into your individual issues further.

Is this a bug?

My "Web Crawl" page shows 2 "not found" errors: Not found (2)

But further down it says: "We have no errors to report. We crawl regularly, so check back later to see updates."

???

What we need in Webmaster tools is an enhancement to the reporting of broken links. We need to know what page is the broken link on. I have two showing on my dashboard, but can't find the little bleeders on any of dozens of pages!

Great feature, thanks! It would also be great to see the number of subscribers to my google gadget, that is available on my site, as well as some kind of time series (sparklines) for some basic analytics!

What does it take to get google to add the url? I have followed all the suggestions and after 2 months it still does not seem to be added. Under Google Webmaster Tools: Dashboard > Statistics > Index stats, none of the items listed; site, link, cache, info, related, produce results. Under Dashboard > Statistics > What Googlebot sees, it has a list of a hundred items. Under Dashboard > Statistics > Crawl stats it shows: The PageRank of your pages in Google _ We do not have data for this site. And no data for July, one page for August, and no data for Sep. Under Dashboard > Tools > Set crawl rat "Number of pages crawled per day" it says Max. 22, Ave. 3, Min. 1. And under Dashboard > Tools > Analyze robots.txt it shows a 404 for the robots.txt file yet the link to it produces the robots.txt file! Am I being indexed or not? What is going on? The site is bigforkoutdoors.com.

I have a similar problem with "Data Freshness" ... Webmaster Tools -> Set Crawl Rate says that Googlebot crawls my 5-page on avg 11 times each day, BUT the Webmaster Tools -> Overview says "Googlebot last successfully accessed your home page on Jul 15, 2007" ... WHAT is going on???

Also, Webmaster Tools -> Index Stats are still all blank ...

The site get 10,000 views per month and has a Google PR of 5.

Can somebody shed some light on this?
