First, a brief recap: In late 2005, we started emailing webmasters to let them know that their site is violating our Webmaster Guidelines and that we have temporarily removed some of their pages from our index. A few months ago we put these emails on hold due to a number of spoofed messages being sent from outside Google, primarily to German webmasters. Then, in mid-July, we launched Message Center in our webmaster console, which allows us to send messages to verified site owners.
While Message Center is great for verified site owners, it doesn't allow us to notify webmasters who aren't registered in Google's Webmaster Tools. For this reason, we plan to resume sending emails in addition to the Message Center notifications. Please note that, as before, our emails will not include attachments. Currently, the Message Center won't keep messages waiting if you haven't previously registered, but we hope to add that feature in the next few months. We'll keep you posted as things change.

RE: Update on penalty notifications
Uh.
(Let me try to put this as delicately as I can...)
The penalty notification process bites. Why would google disable a blog from viewing and post a violation note in the blogs place, AND then take DAYSSSS to resolve the matter?
I responded to the notification immediately. Yet, my blog philadelphia-philadelphia.blogspot.com *still* has not been released so that I may edit it.
Dude, I've sent links to my blog to everyone I know. I have a cool kick-ass poll on the blog, too. Do you know how embarrassing it is that everyone sees the violation note instead of my blog? I don't even know who/what it is I have violated. For the love of pete, it's blog about water ice, pretzels and community service....what in the world could be the violation in that?
Eh, I hope I was delicate enough in registering my level of perturbatuity.

DK,
I think you may have posted this to the wrong place. This is the blog space for Google Webmaster Central, and not Blogspot.
Zammy
Anyway, I just noticed that your blog has been unblocked a short while ago...
Oops.
I'll search for the correct place to make this comment.
Thanks, Zammy!
Why not digitally sign the mails?
Google could show, that they are a good example for the rest of the it-business.
Instead of sending emails with the violation error. Why not send an email inviting them to join the webmaster tools and show them the violation error then.
Hi!
I recently purchased a used domain name. I've been doing ethical SEO for many years and never have had a domain name banned yet. After I bought my name and published my site, I hooked up Google Webmaster Tools and my site was indexed fast. All seems well - except - the previous owner - obviously someone from China, (no offense) left a lot of spammy links to my domain in various places I found through backlink checkers and Yahoo Site Explorer. I have tried to get the webmaster to delete these blog spam entries, but it is difficult - some are chinese blogs.
Is there any way to inform Google of "undesired" backlinks?
Thanks

p.D. I think that this is not the correctly place in order to help me but I don´t know what to do.
I didn't receive any penalty notification email, however I do have 3 sites that were surely penalized for using Text Link Ads.
If I had known about the Google penalty for using TLA I would never have advertised their links.
The sites have now been cleaned up and I submitted a reconsideration request, but have not heard anything back.
Could you please review my sites - rugby-union.info
cricketindex.com
thegolfclub.info
Thank you.
Hi
I'm a newby to internet. I just added my site to google, http://www.amazinggypsybazaar.com.au/ and I have no idea when google going to index it? I heared it can take up to 3 mnth?
Also, can anyone tell me what is blog exactly and how does it help with your website?
Dear Google Guys!
Last a few days (as for me that it happened Aug 28,2007) many old sites that ware been ranked #1-#3 in serps lost their ranks. Much of them we can find on 5-7 pages or even in top100.
Could you explain recently serp changes? Many SEO guys from all over the world say THANK YOU for this explanation.
Best regards,
Wilson.
I just wish we would get a message concerning our site, http://www.travel-ascending.com/ giving some defintive explanation as to why it's penalized so that we can make corrections. We really want to follow all the Google webmaster guidelines, but obviously something is being done mistakenly on our part. Just wish we could get a message from Google stating what is triggering this penalty. Love to hear from you Google!
Aaargh...Just received your "we have temporarily removed some webpages from our search results" message which asks me to correct the following hidden text:
"
e.g.
Buy Xenic
[...]
"
My site (nukestrat.com) has been crawlled just fine since 2003, and I have not entered hidden text. And certainly not "Buy Xenic." More importantly, when I try to verify my site, Google can't do it because it says it's getting too many requests to do so.
Hmmm, someone needs to double check Google's quality control service:
1. Don't dump site unless you specify what pages (use full URL) have the errors, so we have change to correct it. A search of all my pages found no "Buy Xenic."
2. Don't initiate design control unless you can actually process the site verification.

If only Google would respond to the messages you send in the message center, it all would work...
If only...
The last post was correct - if only Google would respond to posts in the message center.
My site webteams.co.uk has been out of the index for 2 or 3 weeks now. I've corrected the small gripe Google had (a hidden p tag on a dead page from 2003 by one of my developers).
But now I must sit back with no dialog possible with Google.
I almost feel that I have been targetted and punished by being a member of WebMaster Tools - I only want to try and do everything right by Google and they kick me out???
Hi folks--
If you have site-specific questions (Why is X happening with my site/in my webmaster tools account?), please search our Webmaster Help Group and post your question there—along with your site's URL—if it hasn't already been answered. There are lots of smart folks there who can take a look and give you some pointers; Googlers also participate in the group, so the best way to start a dialog is to post in the group.
If you feel your site has been penalized, please submit a reconsideration request and we'll review your site and take the appropriate action. You can also review our webmaster guidelines and make sure that you're following the recommended best practices.
Sorry But, Posting here:

Leads to nothing but guesswork, and frankly, I am tired of that. I want a definitive answer from Google on why my site is penalized and how I can have that penalty removed. I have been playing the cat and mouse game in the "help" group for too long and it is just a big waste of time. Guesses upon guesses upon guesses and nothing is ever defintively resolved.

Hi Daphne,
I am a new webmaster, and I had some questions about buying links.
Are you allowed to buy relevant links - as in links that are on sites that are related to yours to help boost your rankings?
For example there is a site called Marapets - I use this one as an example, because it’s a fairly high profile site that buys thousands of text links for semi-related subjects.
For example they have bought thousands of links on thousands of sites for the keyword “Games” and “Free Games” take this text link ad on this website for example - http://www.animesuki.com/ Marapets bought a text link for “Free Games” on this illegal anime download site, which ranks in the top ten on google for keywords “Anime Downloads”.
Is it acceptable to buy links like that when they are semi-related?
Also I have an adsense question - if you look at the marapets home page here http://www.marapets.com/
They have Google adsense ads right next to pictures and also right beside other contextual ads from another ad provider. Is that also allowed? I thought that the terms of use stated that you couldn’t put ads right next to pictures and you weren’t supposed to put them along side contextual ads from another ad provider.
Please clarify this for me as I am a new webmaster, and I would like to do the same things marapets is doing to help make money and promote my site.
Thanks!
Jenn
My company ICCRents (site www.iccrents.com) is a computer rental company. Been in business for 27-years.
Since I added a verified sitemap based on the "Webmaster" tools suggestion, my site has been completely suppressed for our main keywords: Computer Rental & Computer Rentals.
We are a good, established, reputable national company. We've spent resources on making our site google compliant. Google claims that they don't penalize for particular keywords, but I just find this very difficult to believe.
How do I get reindexed for these keywords?
Please explain.

We have had problems with our site and those penlaty reminders about webmaster quidlines. Ok. ve had violated quidlines. But...
Our site is based on 1999. We still have much of old stuff on our site. Where is the logic when 68 000 pages are removed from index, when there are abut 300 vialoting pages, all on same subservice on our site? Our name is quite known on internet too, about 190 000 references (on text) on google to our site...
This gives us much pain, we do have many customesr and now we have to give them some explanation about what's happend. Google has 50% impact on our new visitors. And this penalty notification reevalution is wery slow. We have removed all penalty stuff from our site in about 5 minutes and submited reevalution in 15 minutes. But you say it takes weeks to reevalute.
Coul you make automated tool to inform webmasters about illigal stuff on they site before removeing from index? We do have so much old content, older personels work on our site that it would be nice to know about theese "illigal" stuff before bunnish...
On new sites, this is great that you people have made quidlines. But do not bunnish sites that have exist before you wrote those quidlines, big sites may have services that even mangement do not know to exist anymore.... And on early 2000 it was wery common to make all kind of search engine tricks.
Do you know what I mean whith all this?
what about getting notifications about page rank penalties? it seems to us that we have dropped 5 points due to google believing we sold a cple of links. I dont really care of the green thing but my boss does
Few days ago, My site suddenly change to unranked and my search position drops tremendously. I wanted to contact google and ask what I did wrong as my site is following every webmaster rules. I have a webmaster tool account and no notification message appears in Dashboard.
My site is being around for 2 years+ and nothing wrong so far but suddenly it drops to unranked (normally I got PR1 which is OK because I got high position in my country google search).
I couldn't find google email address to contact them. Can anyone here please let me know what happened or give me google email address so that I can contact them.
My company is an ISO consultancy site located in malaysia.
Thanks in advance.
I have not been notified about anything, yet my one of my sites, www.ashkarmusicanddance.com, was gradually taken out of the index. Oddly enough, the sitemap stats claim that most of the pages are in the index, when they are clearly not, no matter what method I use to find them.
I think this feature is great, but still needs some work.
